How Are Carbon Bicycle Rims Made?

If you are a very passionate cyclist, then you must be curious about how our carbon fiber bicycle rims are made. Carbon fiber is currently the best material for making carbon fiber bicycle wheels and carbon fiber bicycle frames.

In this article, we will introduce the process of manufacturing carbon fiber bike rims in detail from prepreg carbon fiber sheets to ready-for-building carbon bicycle rims.

3D Drawing Design for The Carbon Rims

3D Drawing Design for The Carbon Rims

At the beginning of a bicycle rims development, we need to identify which type of rim was, suit for which kind of terrain, and application for which kind of bike, road bike, or mountain bike, or track bike. What kind of tire should be compatible, clincher, tubular and tubeless-ready, etc…

Our R&D team will basic on the development form to start work, make the 3D drawing, and do simulate it on the computer, after the 3D drawing is completed, we will make a 3D print sample to check details and optimal the cross-section to make it aerodynamic.

Cut the Prepreg Carbon Fiber Sheet

The first step of the production was to cut the prepreg carbon fiber into different angles and shapes, these carbon fiber sheets will pre-forming for rims and do the lay-up.

Conclusion

Carbon bicycle rims are 90% handle made since it production process can’t replace by a machine, the production process from raw material carbon fiber to pre-forming carbon rims then put into the forming machine to curing, every step needs the workers to operate correctly.

We are committed to providing top-notch quality, high-performance carbon bicycle rims, and wheels for pros and enthusiasts worldwide.
